1.  What’s your favorite thing about October?

Two weeks ago, I would have said everything! I love pumpkin spice, sweaters, Halloween and the beautiful change of colors.  Fall is my favorite season and I’m a massive fan of Halloween but I forgot about the rain. I love the rain and while I am thoroughly enjoying the gorgeous display of colors, my favorite thing about October is days like today. It has been pouring rain all day and, gazing out through the drizzle, the red and yellow of the trees stand out even more in contrast to the steely gray sky. The soothing sounds of rain on the roof and windows is the perfect background music to curl up in my sweater and fuzzy socks, drink a hot cup of coffee and do what I love most which is read and write. Check out my post about Words on Paper.

2.  Are you a big celebrator of Halloween?

Um, does a bear shit in the woods? Sorry, but this girl has been a vampire loving, brooding writer, who is only happy when it rains all her life. Of course, I love Halloween. In fact, I’m planning a little party just for my family. OK, maybe it’s just for me. Who cares! I have decorations, games and Halloween recipes.  I have decorated my porch this year with assorted pumpkins, lights and other Halloween bits.  I have tickets to go on a ghost tour at a local historical mansion and I think I might look into the haunted corn maze. I’m up for anything I can do to celebrate!

3.  What’s your favorite horror movie?

I don’t really have a favorite. I think The Exorcism of Emily Rose is probably the scariest movie I’ve ever seen. That was my go-to horror for a while. This year I have watched Arachnaphobia, Hubie Halloween and Hocus Pocus. I plan on watching more and I would love to hear your recommendations. Night of 1000 Corpses is going to be my Halloween night movie this year. It has been an incredibly long time since I’ve seen it but I remember loving it because it was like a classic slasher.

4.  Would you rather a cozy night in watching horrors or a big night out in a costume?

I would rather a big night out in a costume but I’ve only done that once, about a hundred years ago. I don’t mind watching movies and passing out candy but I never compromise when it comes to the costume. I. MUST. DRESS. UP.

5.  Which has been your favorite costume to date?

So far, my favorite costume was from last year when I dressed as Marie Antoinette. You can read about my inspiration in my post, The Truth About My Halloween Costume. I had wanted the costume for years and finally just went for it. I love it because it’s complicated. It has the corset, the  pannier and the wig. I love an extravagant dress for any occasion. I’ll probably do some variation of the same this year. It’s fun to do makeup making myself look beheaded and I know I can do better than last year. Other than that, I was a vampire several times and it’s always a win. Maybe this year I’ll be a vampire Marie Antoinette!!!

6.  Bobbing for apples or pin the hat on the witch?

I would love to bob for apples! It has been since my childhood that I last dunked my face in a big ole tub to chomp an apple. However, that sounds like something the CDC might call “risky behavior”, swapping spit with everyone in an apple barrel. So, I think we’ll do a variation of pin the hat on the witch.

7.  How do you celebrate Halloween?

Normally, for the last eighteen years of my life, I’ve had kids and have gone trick or treating every year. I love it and I’m sad that my kids are all to the age now that they don’t go. In the past few years, I have had a lot of fun dressing up at work. I was a little sad this year. I found Bob, my Halloween Spider, in my jewelry chest. This is the first time in eight years that I’m not wearing him on my badge at the hospital. Maybe my family Halloween party will be my new tradition.

8.  What is your least favorite horror?

I like most horror films. Chucky was pretty hard to take seriously. But in all it’s horror, the Human Centipede, is the worst. Don’t watch it, it’s too much.

9.  Do you have a favorite Trick or Treating memory?

When I was around 12 me and my friends were too old to go trick or treating but we walked around causing trouble stealing colored porch lights and chasing younger kids. I tried Copenhagen that night. We were a bunch of miscreants but it was a one time thing.

When my boys were 1-year-old and 7 months. We trick or treated in two feet of snow. I think it was my dad’s first year living here and he carried my youngest around in his snowsuit and pumpkin costume. My oldest was The Hulk.

10. What is your favorite thing about Halloween?

The spookiness of it. I think it’s fun to get in the goth frame of mind, black lipstick and all, traipsing around in the streets in the dark. Just one night welcoming ghosts and ghouls, witches and skeletons to share the moonlight once a year.

11. Scary costume or silly costume?

Slutty costume! Just jokes. I couldn’t resist because some girls just take it too far.  I did have a great nurse costume that one year I was single for five seconds. Anyway, scary all the way. Halloween is for the undead! However, it depends on your audience. Last year I was plain Marie Antoinette during the day for a fun history lesson and on Halloween night I was dead and beheaded Marie Antoinette.

12.  What is your favorite Halloween candy?

ALL OF IT. I do not discriminate against anything! My favorites are the Almond Joy, Reese’s peanut butter cups, snickers and licorice. It is particularly exciting when I get all the Laffy Taffy. Then the family has to endure my delight as I tell the jokes on all the wrappers.

13. Would you rather meet a witch or a ghost, if you could see either in real life?

Tough question!! I think a witch would be more fun, brooms and potions and all, but I would feel safer meeting a ghost. I don’t feel like they could do much damage. Maybe the witch and I could be friends, though.
