Thinning Hair

Thinning hair is probably the number one complaint I hear about as a hair and skin consultant. Around eighty percent of men experience hair loss or thinning and nearly fifty percent of women. The bad news is that there are a myriad of things that can cause thinning hair. The good news is that most of these conditions can be slowed and even reversed with consistent treatment.

In this post, I will discuss reasons why your hair might be thinning and ways you can improve hair growth through overall health and a healthy scalp.

Reasons we get thinning hair

  1. According to the Amercian Academy of Dermatology, the most common reason for hair loss is genetic. Men and women develop androgenic alopecia from genetics that cause the hair follicles to shrink and then eventually stop growing hair. But even this kind of hair loss can be slowed and stopped when treated. With age we may notice our hairline receding or a widening part down the center. These are the first signs of hair loss and you should start treatment right away to prevent further thinning.

  2. Childbirth, illness and major stressors can also contribute to hair loss. When the stress or illness stops, your hair should stop shedding as much. But there are products to jump start the process and keep your hair follicles from becoming irreparably damaged.

  3. Healthcare problems like unbalanced hormones and thyroid problems can cause hair loss but with treatment of the disease, hair growth should improve.

Ways to Manage Thinning Hair

1. See your doctor or dermatologist. It is important to find the cause of your hair thinning in order to improve it. Blood tests are important to diagnose any underlying thyroid issues or vitamin deficiencies. Medications and food sources of deficient vitamins can be discussed as well as treatment options that are available.

2. Eat healthy and stop smoking. A healthy diet is key to a healthy body and if you cannot consume enough calories or vitamins in a day, supplements are available to help with that. Make sure to eat enough protien and amino acids as well as zinc, selenium, iron and vitamins B, D, E, C and A. Of course, we all know that smoking cigarettes is detrimental to your health.

3. Use gentle products with quality ingredients. Cheap, drugstore hair products contain harsh ingredients that actually strip the hair and scalp of natural oils and can contribute to hair loss. Even drugstore products that claim to moisturize and heal hair can actually sit on top of the scalp and clog hair follicles. This goes for hair color as well. Store bought hair color is very damaging to fine and thin hair. Invest in yourself and spend a little more on your products and services.

4. Be gentle with your hair and limit heat styling. Brush your hair gently to reduce breakage and try to limit how much you wear it back in a tight style. Use detangler and leave in conditioners. Try to cut out the blow dryer when you can and air dry your hair after washing.

The Intense Repair shampoo and conditioner are gently formulated with all naturally based ingredients with the help of the University of Miami and our scientific Board of Advisers.

The new and improved Thinning Defense serum has been proven to have noticable results in 60 days. This lightweight serum hydrates and nourishes the scalp. I noticed a difference after two months. My hair felt thicker, stronger and I definitely noticed baby hairs growing in. I will admit, I have a hard time being consistent but that’s just me. I have a hard time being consistent with my nighttime skincare routine, too. So, that’s something I have to work on! But ideally, I apply this serum every night right after my skincare.

To apply: use 4-5 dropperfuls to cover your scalp and massage in for a few minutes. Wash your hands after the treatment. The dampness in your hair will dry leaving no sticky residue.

How it Works: Hair Thinning Defense Serum contains a blend of melatonin and caffeine known to reduce DHT production. DHT (dihydrotestosterone) is a hormone produced by the body that causes hair thinning. Melatonin promotes an enzyme that decreases DHT and caffeine is a known cellular stimulant that can prolong the growth phase of the hair. The shampoo and conditioner have a luxurious lather and a scent of rosemary oil and mint. They contain, Capixyl, humectants and moisturizers, pea extract, Bakuchiol, D Biotin and Picea Mariana Bark Extract that nourish the scalp for optimum hair growth.

Upon repeated use, IR Clinical Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner defend against hairfall and reveal stronger hair. When used in conjunction with your doctor’s recommendations your thinning hair can make a drastic comeback. Don’t give up hope! Talk to your doctor and email me anytime!
